REM Remix Videos

Open Source Video initiative from REM allowing fans to download HD clips and make a video to be then uploaded onto you tube. There has been a fair amount of folks playing with this idea over the last few years, using tools like jumpcut or the Adode web editing tools.* The big problem for me is that those editing tools make it really hard to keep the sync – whilst having the HD clips and allowing folks to edit the video in a ‘real editor’ gives you so much more flexibility. Its going to be interesting to see how far folks go and what they come up with. I’ll keep an eye on the bands YouTube page and see what floats to the top. Makes me want to get my Mac upgrade and get on and do my own version. Steady on.

* I can’t figure out what Adobe are up to here, they have made a number of announcements about web editing, spoken about the benefits brands could get with mashup video making, but still nothing in the market that explains how to get the Remix tools on a site.
