At ETech07 last week, Dale Dougherty spoke about a recent O’Reilly venture, Make magazine. One of the particular projects he focused on was on Kite Ariel Photography, and I took a look at the web reference he mentioned – its really amazing what happens when you have a different perspective.

Emerging Technology 07 – Disney does web 2.0

Just a quick one – Eric Freeman, Vice President, Technology, Disney Online just gave a quick fly through of the new Disney services. The big deal was the genre channels (you could almost call them tribes. shhh) that break down the legacy organizational divisions, and make things much more user and interest group centric. I know that Imogen (7, fairy crazy) will love the Avatars. The site is media rich to start with, but when you go to the XD page an even more broadband focused offering is presented. The XD offering has a range of widgets and user components allowing a highly configurable & personalized space.

Emerging Technology 07

So to give you a little background, I have recently departed from Siemens where I was involved with the Media and Entertainment vertical, I arrived having been ‘outsourced’ by the BBC. ‘So what’ I hear you ask ‘are you doing in California?’ when the garden you are supposed to be leaving in, is in London. Well, I’m taking some time to get up to speed on the latest thinking around Web 2.o. I had heard great things about the O’Reilly Etech conference, and so far its been absolutely astounding. I was in the executive briefing track all day, not because I think I’m an executive, more that the tutorials all looked really technical.

They had a great cross section of mainstream ideas, as well as some interesting suprises. The big idea for me was about on demand manufacturing, printing solid objects, as well as circuit boards.
